Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is looking for a junior data steward to strengthen RDM services for researchers at various faculties. You will join Erasmus Research Services (ERS) -- a young and dynamic department within Professional Services at EUR -- and collaborate with a team of engagement managers, community coordinators, data stewards, and ethics professionals to achieve the ambitious goal of making open scholarship the default way of working at EUR.

You will also be part of the EUR Digital Competence Centre (EUR DCC), an inter-departmental initiative to help researchers make research data and code FAIR and apply computing practices to increase the efficiency of the research process.

Job description

Your main tasks and responsibilities will be the following:

Research Support

  • Support researchers with data management requests (including storage solutions and recommended tools), with emphasis on data management plans.
  • Contribute to informing, advising, and supporting researchers throughout the research data life cycle (collection, management, storage and publication), in accordance with international standards of research data management (RDM).
  • Help with developing and providing RDM trainings tailored to researchers' needs, inspire researchers to participate, and stay up-to-date with relevant national trends in RDM.

Collaboration

  • Act as a liaison between researchers and the different EUR support units (Erasmus Research Services, the University Library, Erasmus Digitalisation & Information Services), leveraging your network to find optimal solutions for the researchers' use-cases.
  • Contribute to EUR-wide RDM projects, e.g., the development and improvement of RDM services, web portals, and DMP templates and protocols.
  • Support the institutional development of research data management procedures and best practices, ensuring an effective and client-focused research data organisation. These will range from Data Management Planning (DMP) of research projects, to research data curation and the selection of tools and storage solutions.

Job requirements

You recognize yourself in the following description:

  • You have an academic background (minimally completed MSc/MA).
  • You have experience with research methodologies and the way research data are managed in social sciences, behavioural sciences, or humanities, and a broad understanding of how data and software underpin high-quality research.
  • You effectively communicate with people coming from different academic and professional backgrounds.
  • Your networking skills allow you to build bridges and reduce conflict in order to achieve a common goal.
  • You can work independently as well as in a team.
  • You can consistently meet deadlines.
  • You speak English very well (minimum CEFR-level C1).
  • Your academic background is in social sciences, behavioural sciences, or humanities.
  • You are familiar with FAIR and open science principles.
  • You are knowledgeable about the research cycle and contributed in (or assisted) a research group or project.
  • You can read Dutch well (minimum CEFR-level B1). You are willing to take Dutch courses in case the level of Dutch is not sufficient.
